On the west end of Bogue Banks, Emerald Isle, N.C., is a thriving beach vacation spot that offers fun for the entire family. Ocean swimming, surfing and boogie boarding and walking the gorgeous white-sand beaches are popular activities. Restaurants, shops, recreational opportunities and the town's community center with fitness and sports facilities are popular draws as well.
Emerald Isle gets its name from one of the early developers, who, in a flight to assess the area, saw only pristine green maritime forest surrounded by the blue ocean and decided on the name to suit what he saw. Relatively unpopulated in the 1950s, Emerald Isle saw an increase in visitors with a ferry service beginning in 1960 and then the high-rise B. Cameron Langston bridge in 1971, which increased the population significantly.
Emerald Isle shares the island of Bogue Banks with Atlantic Beach, Indian Beach, Salter Path and Pine Knoll Shores, making for one long stretch of vacation paradise. We know you'll enjoy your stay here.
